Do This One Thing Every Morning to Transform Your Day

Imagine waking up each morning feeling energized, focused, and in control. It might sound too good to be true, but I've discovered a simple practice that has made a world of difference in my life: taking a mindful moment to check in with myself before the chaos of the day begins.

I used to be the queen of "go, go, go." I'd jump out of bed and immediately dive into my to-do list, emails, and the endless demands of running a business. I rarely stopped to consider how I was feeling, what I was thinking, or what my body and soul needed.

But then I realized that this constant state of busyness and reactivity was taking a toll on my well-being. I was feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and disconnected from myself and my purpose.

That's when I decided to incorporate a mindful moment into my morning routine. It's a simple practice, but it's had a profound impact on my life.

What is a Mindful Moment?

A mindful moment is a dedicated time each morning to check in with yourself – your mind, body, and soul. It's about creating a space for self-awareness and intention setting before the demands of the day take over.

Here's how you can approach your mindful moment:

  1. Check in with your mind: Start by bringing awareness to your thoughts. What are you thinking about? Are your thoughts positive and supportive, or are they filled with worry and negativity? Are you dwelling on the past or fretting about the future? By simply noticing your thoughts without judgment, you can start to shift your mindset and choose more empowering thoughts.
  2. Check in with your body: Next, tune into your physical sensations. How are you feeling in your body? Are you energized and grounded, or tense and depleted? Do you have any aches or pains? By paying attention to your body's signals, you can identify any areas that need attention and take steps to care for yourself.
  3. Check in with your emotions: Emotions are powerful messengers, and it's important to acknowledge and understand them. Ask yourself: What am I feeling emotionally? Am I feeling joyful and peaceful, or am I carrying anxiety and stress? By recognizing your emotions, you can process them in a healthy way and prevent them from dictating your actions.
  4. Check in with your soul: Finally, connect with your spiritual center. How are you doing spiritually? Are you feeling connected to your faith purpose, or are you feeling lost and disconnected? This is a time for prayer, reflection, and surrendering your day to a higher power.

The Power of Surrender

One of the most powerful aspects of this mindful moment is the practice of surrender. It's about recognizing that you don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You can release your worries, fears, and anxieties to God and trust that you are guided and supported.

This act of surrender can bring a profound sense of peace and freedom into your life. It allows you to approach your day with greater clarity, focus, and confidence, knowing that you are not alone.

What Do You Need Today?

After checking in with your mind, body, and soul, ask yourself this important question: What do I need today?

This might be a physical need, like getting more rest, scheduling a massage, or going for a walk in nature. It might be an emotional need, like connecting with a loved one, journaling my feelings, or practicing self-compassion. Or it might be a spiritual need, like spending more time in prayer or meditation, or connecting with my faith community.

By identifying your needs and taking steps to meet them, you’re able to show up as your best self, both personally and professionally.

Mindful Moments Throughout the Day

While your morning mindful moment is essential for setting the tone for my day, it is  also helpful to check in with yourself throughout the day. Perhaps it’s a quick pause to take a few deep breaths, a moment of gratitude for the good things in your life, or a simple reflection on how you’re feeling and what you need in that moment.

These mini mindful moments help you to stay grounded, centered, and connected to your purpose, even when things get hectic.

Tracking Your Mindset

To further enhance your self-awareness, start tracking your mindset throughout the day. I use a simple scale of 1 to 3:

  • 1: Feeling positive, optimistic, and energized.
  • 2: Experiencing a mix of positive and negative emotions, but actively working to shift towards a more positive mindset.
  • 3: Struggling with negativity, worry, or fear.

By tracking your mindset, you can identify patterns and triggers that might be affecting your well-being. This awareness allows you to take proactive steps to cultivate a more positive and resilient mindset.

The Power of Choice

Ultimately, this practice of mindful moments is about recognizing that you have a choice in how you experience your life. You can choose to live on autopilot, reacting to situations and letting your emotions dictate your actions. Or you can choose to live with intention, awareness, and presence, creating a life that is aligned with your values and goals.

By incorporating this one simple practice into your daily routine, you can transform your mindset, reduce stress, and create a life of greater purpose, joy, and fulfillment. So, what are you waiting for? Start your day with a mindful moment and see the difference it can make in your life.
